The Delhi Commission for Safai Karamcharis was established on 06/12/2006 as a statutory body at the state level in pursuance of the Delhi Commission for Safai Karamcharis Act, 2006 to safeguard the rights and interests and redressal of the grievances of the Safai Karamcharis residing in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. The Commission is an autonomous grantee institution set up under the said Act. It has a wide mandate covering almost all aspects of Safai Karmacharis development, to investigate and examine the safeguards provided to Safai Karamcharis under the Constitution of India or under any law for the time being in force or under any judicial decisions or any orders or instructions issued by the Government of India or the Government, and to evaluate the working of such safeguards and look into specific complaints as well as to take suo-moto notice of matters relating to deprivation of Safai Karamcharis’ rights etc. and take up the issues with appropriate authorities for redressal.
The Commission consists of three persons as under:-
Ø The Commission shall consist of a Chairperson to be nominated by the Government from amongst persons of eminence, ability and integrity from Safai Karamcharis of Delhi. The Chairperson shall hold office for a period of five years or till the age of sixty five years (whichever is less) from the date he/she assumes office.
Ø The Commission shall consist of two Members (Part-time) to be nominated by the Government from amongst persons of eminence, ability and integrity from Safai Karamcharis of Delhi. Members (Part-time) will hold office for a period of five years or till the age of sixty two years (whichever is less) from the date he/she assumes office.
